Livestock Hub by Practical Promotions is comprised of two families who have a long history of working together in the cattle industry, the Sweeneys and the Nichols'. Read more about us below, then keep scrolling for our introductory letter.

The Sweeneys
Dave Sweeney has over 25 years of Angus sales experience, having originally joining the CAS team in 1990. Dave holds a BS degree from South Dakota State University in Animal Science and competed on the SDSU Meats and Livestock Judging Teams. His life experiences include a cross-section of beef cattle endeavors including cattle feeding and commercial and registered Angus cow-calf. Dave has handled most of the catalog footnotes and layout in recent years and is an accomplished merchandiser. He has held many judging, teaching, and advisory roles in the industry and was for three years the Co-Executive Director of the Iowa Angus Association, a position he shared with his wife of 31 years, Annette. Annette Sweeney is an accomplished agri-leader who was the founder of Practical Promotions some 20 years ago. Annette mastered early desktop publishing software systems when she created the first home-grown Iowa Angus News. Her fascination with technology continued when she enlisted the help of a close friend and developed the "Auction Track" software that today continues to record all Conover Auction sales results and produce the continuously updated mailing lists utilized for your individualized sale list. In 2008 Annette was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives, where she served as Chairman of the House Agriculture Committee until her departure in 2012. Today, Annette shares her expertise lobbying for corn and ethanol interests when not helping Dave on Sweeney Farms. In 2008 Annette passed the Practical Promotions business to long-time employee Christa Nichols. |
The Nichols'
Christa Nichols graduated from Iowa State University with honors with a BS in Journalism and Mass Communications. After completing her professional internship with the Iowa State University Extension office in Ames, she began working for Dave and Annette during her senior year in college. A beautiful working relationship formed that has spanned almost two decades. Christa took over management of Practical Promotions in 2008, and today the business specializes in custom graphics creation, advertising, layout and design and more. Christa has been a graphic artist for Conover Auction Service for over 15 years, where she has designed and produced hundreds of catalogs and ads in addition to creating and maintaining their website. Jeremy Nichols, Christa’s husband, joined her in Practical Promotions in 2014, specializing in typesetting and layout and design. |
